STEVE MILLER ~ Fine Art Woodturner

I have been a woodturner specializing in highly carved, textured, and colored wood vessels since 1998.

BIOGRAPHY

EDUCATION: B.S. in Criminal Justice, Florida International University, 1978

PROFESSIONAL HISTORY: 33 years in Law Enforcement, Miami-Dade Police Department, Miami FL

ARTISTIC HISTORY: I began woodturning in 1998 and started selling my fine art woodwork that year. By 2015 that evolved into turning and carving functional and non-functional vessels, as well as sculptural forms. In 2016 I attended the Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts where instructor, Jacques Vesery, exposed me to many innovative woodworking techniques. This was followed by an influential class with master woodworker John Paul Fennell in 2019. Currently, I maintain a full-time professional woodworking studio in Black Mountain, NC and exhibit at select venues across the United States.

WOODWORKING EDUCATION: I have attended numerous workshops and seminars since 1998, and have spent a great many hours with some of the best teachers in the woodturning world. This is a truly unique group of artisans who helped and encouraged me to explore and refine my appreciation for wood as an art form.
